Bare Bones Guide to using the
Panasonic VDR-D300 DVD Camcorder.
1. Power on.
2. Hold camera upside down and insert battery
3. Insert DVD. Disc eject button is around the corner from
the power button.
Which disc should I use?
DVD-R: you can record until the disc is full.
DVD-RW: you can reformat the disc and record
again. (be sure to copy anything you want to save
to your computer first)
4. Open the LCD panel.
It will swivel in a variety
of directions.
5. Set the mode dial to motion
picture recording.
To start recording, press the record
button with your thumb.
6. Playing back from the camera.
Set the mode dial to playback.
7. You can connect the AV cable from the
port under the lens of the camera to the inputs on a TV or VCR.
8. Playing your DVD in a computer or other DVD player.
To make your disc playable on something other than the camcorder,
you must finalize the disc.
a) connect the AC adapter (you cannot finalize a disc on
battery power)
b) Set the mode dial to playback
c) press the MENU button. Use the joystick to select SETUP,
then FINALIZE, then YES.
It will take a few minutes to finalize the disc. It takes longer if there’s very little
recorded on the disc.
9. Re-using a DVD-RW.
There are 2 options:
You can UN-FINALIZE a DVD-RW to add new footage to a disc that has been finalized.
You can FORMAT a DVD-RW erasing everything that was previously recorded on the disc.
In both cases, put the camera in playback mode, press MENU and select SETUP.
A note about recording times.
There are 3 quality settings. Set the camera mode dial to motion picture recording. Press
MENU. Press the center of the joystick to enter the BASIC mode. Use the joystick to go down to
REC MODE and over to the submenu.
XP: approx 20 minutes SP: approx 30 minutes LP: approx 60 minutes
