Chapter 8. Maintenance

8.1 Calibration

In the

CALIB

menu, the user can calibrate and trim the analog output and inputs and check other meter functions.

This chapter also covers updating

Sentinel LNG

software over the RS232 interface.

Before performing calibration of the

Sentinel LNG

, be sure the following equipment is available:

•

Current meter capable of precisely measuring 4 to 20 mA current levels

•

PC with RS232 Cable and

Hyperterminal

software (available on Windows operating systems)

While following the programming instructions, refer to Figure 236 on page 217.

8.1.1

Updating Sentinel LNG Instrument Software

To set up the RS232, connect one end of a 9-pin RS232 cable to the COM-1 serial port on a PC and the other end to

Com Port I/O on terminal block TB2 on the

Sentinel LNG

, as described in Chapter 2,

Installation

WARNING!

Use RS232 connections in Non-Hazardous areas only.

Note:

The RS232 cable connection is not limited to the COM-1 serial port of the PC. Connect the RS232 cable to any

available RS232 serial port on the PC, and follow the same instructions as for the COM-1 port.

On your PC, set up the

Hyperterminal

program.

Note:

The use of

Hyperterminal

is shown here as an example. If you are using a different communications

software, see its manual for detailed instructions.

From the PC Start Menu, click

Programs/Accessories/Communications/Hyperterminal

to open the Hyperterminal

window.

If the call is not connected, click on

New Connection

and enter a name. Click OK.

In the

Connect To

window, select COM 1 as the desired port.

In the

Properties

window, set the following parameters:

• Bits per second: 115200
• Data bits: 8
• Parity: None.
• Stop Bits: 1
• Flow control: None
