not switch on the equipment until it has reached room temperature.

23.  Do not step on the power cord. Make certain that the power cable does not become kinked, espe-

cially at the mains outlet and/or power adapter and the equipment connector.

24.  When connecting the equipment, make certain that the power cord or power adapter is always

freely accessible. Always disconnect the equipment from the power supply if the equipment is not

in use or if you want to clean the equipment. Always unplug the power cord and power adapter from

the power outlet at the plug or adapter and not by pulling on the cord. Never touch the power cord

and power adapter with wet hands.

25.  To disconnect the equipment from the power mains completely, unplug the power cord or power

adapter from the power outlet.

26.  Unplug the power cord and power adapter from the power outlet if there is a risk of a lightning strike

or before extended periods of disuse.

THE BACKGROUND

Since the introduction of multitrack recording sound shaping in the studio has been continuously refined.

Reamping is one of today’s recording techniques tracking the raw guitar signal usually in parallel with

that from a guitar amplifier. The direct recording can now be fed to different amps to compare, mix,

and match a variety of tones for the ultimate sound without the necessity of playing a part over and

over again. Recording systems, however, provide different output levels than electric guitars which are

designed for their own distinctive breed of amplifiers. This is where the Palmer DACCAPO reamping

interface comes in, a dedicated tool to perfectly match recording system and guitar amplifier levels.

SETTINGS

The Palmer DACCAPO is a passive unit that does not require mains or batteries. It features a high qual-

ity special design transformer that handles both the input levels of professional and semiprofessional

recording systems. A selector switches between the profes4 dBu studio or -10 dBV semiprofes-

sional levels. These are absolutely uncritical since the DACCAPO’s design provides plenty of headroom.

The unit’s output is an unbalanced hi-Z signal modeled on that of an electric guitar, and a trim pot has

been incorporated for precise level adjustment. Similar to a DI box, the DACCAPO’s inputs and outputs

are electrically isolated.

CONNECTIONS

The DACCAPO’s input is a balanced female XLR connector with standard pin wiring (see Technical

Specifications). Use a standard microphone cable for connection if your recording system features male

XLR outputs, or an appropriate adaptor for other configurations. Set the DACCAPO’s operating level to

-10 dBV to match semiprofessional equipment, or to +4 dBu if you are using a professional recording

system. The Ground Lift switch next to the Level selector connects the input and output ground in the

down position. Since guitar amplifiers are usually grounded via their mains connection we recommend

to initially set the switch to the Lift position (up). Semiprofessional recording systems providing unbal-

anced output signals require bridging pins 1 and 3 of the connecting cable’s XLR.

Use a high quality instrument (guitar) cable to connect the DACCAPO’s TS jack socket output to the guitar

amplifier input keeping the cable as short as possible. Next to the output socket, a trim control provides

fine tuning of the output level. The DACCAPO is capable of much higher levels than the average electric

guitar to slam the amplifier input producing saturation if desired.

PLACEMENT

In professional studios the control and recording rooms are usually separate. If the amplifier is placed

in the recording room the DACCAPO should be close by. Great lengths of unbalanced instrument cable

tend to pick up interference and cause loss of sound which is prevented by the balanced signal feed.

To avoid hum pickup the DACCAPO should not be placed near mains transformers and equipment pro-

ducing strong stray fields.
