CHAPTER 7

Connecting the electric motor and determining the sense of
rotation
The electric motor must be installed by an appropriate, professionally trained electrician according to
the enclosed circuit diagram of the crane (E-PLAN_100082338-Akita_RevC / E-PLAN_100084986-
Noshiro_Rev_C) and ETB (EEA16769_Eplan-ElControlBox_PSM400-Kajima-Jetty_V1.1.)
•
Important
: The delivered cables between crane and ETB of the projects have different length!
Please check according to the E-Plan for each project.
• Electric connection must be carried out by an electrician (400/50Hz)
• Ensure the main power is turned OFF and the emergency stop switch is activated before beginning
installation.
To make sure that the electric motor is running in the correct sense of rotation (motor operation
counterclockwise) the following procedure is described for the electric connection.
Check and determine the phase sequence at the three-wire mains (L1, L2 and L3 in a field that is rotating
clockwise).
Use a measuring instrument with phase sequence display to determine the phase sequence quickly and
easily. This measuring instrument can be obtained from PALFINGER MARINE.
The control box to start the Y ∆ motor must be designed in accordance with the enclosed circuit diagram
so that the motor runs counterclockwise because the field of the three-wire mains rotates clockwise.
If it is possible to inspect the sense of rotation using an instrument to indicate the phase sequence it will
be exceptionally allowed to start the electric motor by switching it on briefly.
In doing so, pay particular attention to preventing the electric motor from reaching its maximum
performance.
It is easier to check the correct sense of rotation visually while the rotor disk of the electric motor is
running down.
If you find out in this short electric motor test run that it is the wrong sense of rotation, check the start
circuit of the Y ∆ motor and the cabling of both the control box and the motor once again and rectify it. If
an error cannot be found it is possible to change the sense of rotation simply by exchanging 2 of the 3
lines L1, L2 and L3 at the power supply.
Also, here it is necessary to check the correct sense of rotation before switching the electric motor
on completely.
Note!
Observe any applicable federal and state law as well as the regulations and
provisions to handle electric equipment in order to guarantee the safety of
people and equipment.
Note!
We recommend using the PhaseCop 2 and M 3110 phase sequence indicator
together with appropriate accessories or an equivalent device to connect the
electric motor.
Note!
Inspections need to be carried out both on the main motor and on the
emergency electrical drive!
