Filling the engine oil
Check the engine oil level through the oil filler hole, which is also used to top up the
engine oil.
Before starting
Remember to top up the engine oil before starting
–
the engine
can be seriously damaged if started without oil!
1.
Place the machine on a level surface.
2.
Unscrew the dipstick and read the oil level.
3.
The oil should reach a point between the "HIGH" and "LOW" marks on the stick. See
Figure 29.
4.
Fill with engine oil to the HIGH mark.
5.
Use a high grade oil. Recommended type: 10W-40 or SAE-30.
Petrol
WARNING
Exercise extreme caution when handling petrol. Petrol is extremely flammable
and the fumes are explosive. Never fill with fuel indoors or on a hot or running
engine. Do not smoke and make sure there are no sources of ignition in the area.
•
Store petrol in clean, approved containers and make sure the cap is properly fitted.
•
Make sure the container from which the petrol is poured is clean or free of rust and
other foreign particles.
NB: There may be a plastic dust cap inside the fuel filler opening. Remove and discard
if found.
•
Always fill the fuel tank outdoors and use a funnel or spout to prevent spillage.
•
Fill the fuel tank with clean, fresh, unleaded petrol.
•
Never fill the fuel tank completely. Fill the tank to within 1.3 cm of the top to allow for
fuel expansion.
•
Ensure that any spilled fuel is wiped up before starting the engine.
