Standard Scanner Cantilever Holders

Depending on your specific imaging application, the appropriate cantilever holder must be used.
This section serves as a guide to the available standard scanner options and to help you identify
the types of cantilever holders you may already own.

All the available cantilever holders have many things in common:

l

All have a circuit board which allows the system to identify the type of cantilever holder and to
activate the appropriate software control panels.

l

Nearly all have a piezoelectric actuator and allow AC mode and contact mode imaging.

l

Nearly all have the ability to apply DC and AC voltage to the cantilever.

Many more contain specific electronics allowing for current measurement, application of high
voltage to the tip,, and more.

Note:

Cantilever holders are the most delicate components of the AFM. Treat it like you might

treat your great grandfather's pocket watch. Never drop it. Remember that even the most
basic cantilever holder costs thousands of dollars to replace.
