SECTION 1
INTRODUCTION
The Orbital Systems, Ltd. LRD-200B demodulator is a versatile DSP (Digital Signal
Processing)-based receiver used for the following satellites that transmit in the L-band and S-
band:
•
Polar orbiting satellites
•
Geosynchronous weather satellites
•
EOS (earth observation satellites)
The LRD-200B supports selectable IF (Intermediate Frequency) inputs at both 140 MHz and
70 MHz for compatibility with Orbital Systems, Ltd. downconverters, IFDs (Integrated Feed
Downconverters), and third-party products.
The LRD-200B uses selectable SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) filters in the IF to provide
superior out-of-band signal rejection. This function is important with the proliferation of
cellular phone and other wireless device signals in L-band and S-band.
The incoming signal is passed through a programmable attenuator to extend the input
dynamic range. It is converted to a 70 MHz first IF, and then converted to a 10 MHz IF for
processing by the digital demodulator. The signal is filtered and directly digitized at 100
MSPS (Million Samples Per Second) with 10-bit resolution.
