D.2.7.4

Bridge Controller Timeout

If commands are not serviced within the expected time frame, timeout errors are
detected. This may cause a device failure reported for:

hc:///chassis=0/iou=

/link=0/controller=0

Possible Causes

■

The

I2C_LOCAL

bus within the link card is faulty.

■

If the PCI Express link does not train, the bridge controller may not service the
command request buffer.

Resolution

1. If the PCI Express errors are detected by the domain, resolve the link training

errors and see if timeouts still occur.

The PCI Express fabric includes the host platform, the pair of link cards with
connecting cable, and the External I/O Expansion Unit I/O boat. Failures within
any of these FRUs or connections between them can cause PCI Express link-
training failures.

Follow these steps to try to resolve this problem:

a. Reseat both link cards.

b. Move the host link card to a different host slot.

c. Replace the cable.

d. Try a different External I/O Expansion Unit I/O boat.

e. Try a different host I/O unit (IOU

#

).

2. If no PCI Express errors are present, try to resolve the problem by following

these steps:

a. Replace the cable.

b. Replace the link card in the host slot.

c. Replace the link card in the boat.
