1. Optical System
a. Bulb is lit, but field of view remains
dark.
Bertrand lens is engaged.
Remove the Bertrand lens from the
light path.
In the extinction condition.
Remove the analyzer from the light
path.
b. Vignetting or uneven field of view.
Test plate is stopped at an intermediate
position.
Set at click-stop position.
During orthoscopic observation, the con-
denser top lens is placed in the light path
or stopped at intermediate position.
Remove top lens completely from the
light path.
c. The conoscopic image is not visible.
Condenser top lens is not placed in
the light path.
Swing in the top lens.
Bertrand lens is not placed in the light path.
Place Bertrand lens in the light path.
Intermediate attachment for ortho-
scopic observation (U-OPA) is attached.
Replace it with the U-CPA if you have
one. If you don’t, look into the eyepiece
sleeve to observe the conoscopic im-
age.
d. Extinction is not obtainable.
The analyzer is not in the light path.
Engage the analyzer.
