Media family calibration
Learn about media family calibration
The output profile calculates the CMYK values that the printer must print to reproduce source
colours on a certain media substrate. (

amounts to print these CMYK values, however, slightly change over time. Printer settings, the
humidity and the temperature can influence the ink production of the nozzles. These factors only
affect the production of the individual process colours and not the mixing behaviour. The media
family calibration ensures that the colour quality remains stable over time.
The media family calibration procedure creates C, M, Y, and K calibration curves that are stored
together with the media definition. These curves compensate for the difference between the
measured ink amounts during the calibration procedure and the values expected from the output
profile. The measurements during the calibration procedure represent the actual colour
behaviour of the printer.
You need to perform a media family calibration on a regular base to correct the expected
variations in the colour reproduction. (

After the completion of the media family calibration procedure, the feedback window shows the
results of the performed procedure. Depending on the feedback information, you decide to save
the new calibration curves or discard the results and keep the calibration curves of the previous
media family calibration. (
