UV Ink and Flush
Safe Handling
Safe handling and use of UV ink and Flush are detailed in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
documents. Review them before handling UV ink and flush.

UV ink Cautions
CAUTION
• UV ink can be harmful if not properly handled. Make sure to carefully follow the Safety Data
Sheet guidelines in order to ensure maximum safety.
• Avoid skin contact with ink or uncured printed media.
• Wear safety glasses when handling ink or maintenance materials.
• Always wear prescribed gloves when contact with ink or maintenance materials is possible.

• Gloves should overlap sleeves.
• If a Microflex glove is contaminated with ink, discard it within 1 hour. Other nitrile gloves
discard within 10 minutes or less.
• Do not reuse single-use gloves.
• Handle prints with gloves when ink is not properly cured.
• When ink contacts your skin; clean immediately with soap and water. Do not use alcohol or
other solvents.
• When ink contacts your eyes; flush with water, consult the safety data sheet and contact a
doctor.
• Inks are not allowed for food-related or children-related applications (e.g. plates, toys).
• All waste containing uncured or partly cured UV ink is hazardous and must be disposed of
separately according to local regulations. Do not mix ink waste with non-hazardous waste
(household, office, etc.). Do not allow it to reach sewage systems or drinking water supplies.
Ink waste includes maintenance pads and cloths, gloves and any other material containing
uncured or partly cured UV ink. Disposal must be according to all federal, state and local
applicable regulations.
UV Ink Personal Safety
The operator must wear nitrile gloves, a protective apron, and safety glasses with side shields
when handling inks. Read and practice safety guidelines as outlined in the SDS for each ink. Post
these documents in the work area as required by prevailing law. SDS are provided with all inks
and flush when you purchase them and are also available from http://downloads.oce.com.
NOTE
Permeation time of ink components through different protective aprons will vary. Protective
aprons must be replaced once contaminated.
Chemicals in UV ink begin to permeate most nitrile gloves in less than 10 minutes. While this
action may not be visible, changing contaminated gloves should occur every few minutes (except
the new Microflex gloves described below, which last up to 1 hour). These penetrating chemicals
