Chapter 3 - Setup and Installation
Duplex Mode (NexStor 4220F)

Duplex Mode (NexStor 4220F)
The basic duplex operating mode provides a single enclosure with dual RAID
Controllers. The two controllers operate in a dual-active configuration, where both
controllers are actively processing data. This greatly improves the overall system
performance and provides the most robust system redundancy. You can choose
either a Multi-Port or a Multiple Target ID (TID) topology when using the duplex
mode. This attribute is selected from the software.
In the Multi-Port operating mode, all host ports are active and connected to
individual Fibre loops. This mode requires alternate path software since it does
not support transparent failover and failback operations.
In the Multiple Target ID operating mode, the controller has the ability to
function as multiple target ports on a single arbitrated loop. During failover, the
surviving controller enables a virtual port, impersonating the ports from the failed
controller.
The duplex mode supports several cabling configurations for Multi-TID and
Multi-Port. The configurations demonstrate attachments to a single enclosure and
multiple enclosures.
NOTE:
Split-bus mode is not supported when a RAID Controller is installed.
CAUTION:
The bus speed must be set to the same setting between the disk
drives and the Disk I/O card(s), and then the host system HBAs
(BIOS setting) and the Host I/O cards. For example, if you are using
2 Gb drives, the Disk I/O cards must be set to 2 Gb mode. If your
host system HBA(s) is set to 1 Gb mode, the Host I/O card(s) must
be set to 1 Gb mode.
Multi-TID Single Host-Single Connection Configuration
1
Set the jumper (JP4) on the Disk I/O card to configure the bus speed mode.
Loosen the two captive fastener screws for the Disk I/O card and pull it from
the enclosure using the fastener screws. Locate the jumper JP4 and position it
for the desired speed setting, (installed on one pin only for 2 Gb mode and
on both pins for 1 Gb mode).
