2.1 NION Description
The VGM NION is a protocol conversion platform that interfaces the UniNet™ facilities monitoring network to the
Vista Gateway Module. The VGM in turn interfaces directly to ADEMCO Vista 128B, 128FB or 120 security/fire
panels over its proprietary keypad loop. The VGM NION translates security/fire system events received from the
VGM into UniNet™ protocol, and likewise converts UniNet™ commands into native VGM protocol to control the
panel.
2.2 Establishing Communication Between the VGM NION and the Network
Follow the steps below to establish communication between the VGM NION and the network:
1. After installing the NION hardware and making all wiring connections, bind the VGM NION to the
Echelon network by pressing the bind pin on the board. Once this is done, a NION device icon will be
autocreated on the Workstation screen.

2. At the Workstation, verify that the VGM plug-in is configured as a VGM NION type, and that the Worksta-
tion has node control. For details on manual Plug-In configuration, refer to section 2.3.
3. Launch the Plug-In from a right-click pop-up menu of a VGM-related device icon (e.g., the NION icon
created in Step 1).
4. Connect the Vista Gateway Module to the Echelon network.
