Operation

Back to Disk Menu

Setting Up and Operation

Up to four controllers can be connected to a radio configuration. Each controller provides an operating
position that can be used to transmit and receive on the frequency currently selected at the controlled
equipment. The controlled equipment's frequency or operating mode cannot be changed from a
controller.

In addition to normal transmit and receive facilities, an intercom facility is provided. This facility allows an
operator to speak to other controller operating positions without keying the transmitter. A hand
microphone is provided for use with each controller.

Switching Between Standby and On

Power is switched to the controller's circuits through the Power On/Standby switch fitted to the rear panel.
When the switch is set to On, the front panel Supply indicator is lit.

When the Power switch is set to the Standby position, lethal voltages are still present in the
controller's internal power supply. To ensure safe working during maintenance, the ac and
dc input supplies must be disconnected from the controller.

Transmitting and Receiving

To key the transmitter, press the hand microphone's PTT button and then speak clearly into the
microphone. Check that the Busy indicator lights.

Reception is heard through the controller's internal loudspeaker. The volume is adjusted using the front
panel's rotary volume control. When a signal that is above the controlled equipment's squelch threshold
is received, the Busy indicator lights.

Using the Intercom Facility

The intercom facility allows an operator to speak to other controller operating positions.

To speak to other positions, press down the Intercom switch, then press the microphone's PTT switch
and speak into the microphone. When finished, release the microphone's PTT switch, and then release
the Intercom switch.

WARNING                     Dangerous Voltage

The intercom facility

must not

be used when the controller’s external PTT signal is used as the

keying signal.

Using the intercom facility with external PTT will cause the transmitter to key and broadcast the
intercom speech.
