Ringer Equivalence Number
The Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) is used to determine the quantity of
devices that may be connected to the telephone line. The REN assigned to each
terminal device denotes the percentage of the total load to be connected to a
telephone line used by the device to prevent overloading. The REN is
increased each time a terminal device is connected to the telephone line. In
most areas, the sum of the RENs should not exceed 5. The REN of the system
is 1.5 B.
