Reference for Passport 4460 Hardware

 

Configuring the Modem Attached to the Passport 4460

The modem that is attached to the Passport 4460 must be configured for Quiet 
operations (no result code, no command echo/local echo). 

You use a terminal emulation program or a dumb terminal to configure the 
modem. In either case, you must set the modem baud rate to match that of the 
Passport 4460 management port (the default is 9600 baud).

Use your modem documentation and the procedure that follows as a guide to 
configuring the modem.

Procedure

To configure a Hayes-compatible modem for Quiet operations, follow these steps: 

1

Connect the PC (or terminal) to the modem.

Refer to your modem documentation to determine the cabling requirement. 

2

Start the terminal emulation program. 

3

Set the serial port baud rate to match that of the Passport 4460 management 
port (the default is 9600 baud).

Issue the following sequence of AT commands:

AT Command

Description

AT&F

Set the modem to start with factory defaults. Refer to your modem 
documentation to determine the required format for this command.

ATS0=1

Set the modem to answer on the first ring.

ATE0

Disable command echo/local echo.

ATQ1

Do not return result codes.

AT&B1

Lock the serial port rate to the current baud rate (this is the rate you 
set in step 3 above).

AT&D

Ignore DTR (always on).

AT&W

Write the current settings to NVRAM (nonvolatile RAM). This 
retains the configuration through power cycles.
