IM Chat service
25
Users of the IM Chat service can set up rules in their personal profile to
route incoming IMs to an address of their choice. Users can join multiple
chat rooms simultaneously with a separate window for each chat room. A
system administrator can configure the system wide parameters listed in
Table 3 "Default IM Chat parameters" (page 25)
using the MAS Console.
These parameters are available by opening the configuration window for
the IM Chat service.
Table 3

The maximum number of simultaneously active
chat rooms.
System Rooms
None
A list of names of predefined chat rooms that
are always available to all users.
Inactivity Duration
4 320 000
The amount of time (measured in milliseconds)
that no activity takes place in a chat room
before all sessions attached to that chat room
expire. This timer does not exist for a System
Room. System Rooms never expire.
Idle Duration
300 000
The amount of time (measured in milliseconds)
that a session can stay active without the user
of the session joining a chat room. If the timer
expires before the user joins a chat room, the
session is dropped.
Invitation Response

in which a user can respond to an invitation to

user responds, the invitation is dropped.
Maximum Message Length
400
The maximum number of characters allowed in
a single message. If the number of characters
in a message exceeds this value, the message
is segmented and transmitted as multiple IMs.
The Media Application Server relies on network intelligence to route SIP
sessions to and from the system successfully. The Media Application Server
does not normally maintain knowledge of users, routes, aliases, or any other
network-specific information except in the case of the IM Chat application.
Therefore, for service requests to route through the network and terminate
on the correct Media Application Server, these service requests must:
•
initially traverse a point of network intelligence, such as the Session
