FURNACE INSTALLATION

G7XC series gas furnaces are shipped ready for installation
in the upfl ow or horizontal right or left positions. Access
for positioning and servicing must be considered when
locating the unit. See Table 1 (page 5) for the required
clearances needed to move the furnace to its installation
point (hallways, doorways, etc).

General Requirements

•  The furnace must be leveled at installation and attached

to a properly installed duct system. Refer to page 11 for
circulating air requirements.

• The furnace requires special venting materials and

installation procedures. See pages 8 -10 for venting
guidelines and specifi cations.

• The furnace must be installed so that all electrical

components are protected from water.

• The furnace must be installed upstream from a

refrigeration system.

•  The cabinet plug must always be used to close the hole

in the side of the furnace when rotating the inducer.

 WARNING:

The furnace must not be installed directly on
carpeting, tile, or any combustible material other
than wood fl ooring.

Direct vent (two pipe) applications

It is important that Direct Vent (2 pipe) systems maintain
an airtight fl ow path from the air inlet to the fl ue gas outlet.
The furnace ships from the factory with two holes (See
Figure 25, page 25) in the cabinet for the air inlet and fl ue
gas outlet. In certain confi gurations, it is necessary to
remove and relocate a plastic cap in the furnace cabinet.
If changing the position of the air inlet and fl ue gas outlet,
it is required that the previous hole be closed off with the
plastic cap to maintain air tightness in the furnace.

Upfl ow Installation

 WARNING:

The furnace must not be installed directly on
carpeting, tile, or any combustible material other
than wood fl ooring.

The G7XC gas furnace may be installed directly on
combustible wood fl ooring or supports. For venting
guidelines and specifi cations, see Venting Requirements
section.

Side Return Air Inlet
This gas furnace is shipped with the bottom panel installed
(Figure 25). If the furnace is installed using both side return
air inlets, the bottom panel must not be removed.

Bottom Return Air Inlet
If the bottom of the furnace is being used as a return air
inlet, the bottom panel must be removed prior to installation.
See Bottom Panel Removal (page 13).

Horizontal Installation

The G7XC furnace can be installed horizontally in an
attic, basement, crawl space or alcove (Figure 10). It can
also be suspended from a ceiling in a basement or utility
room in either a right to left airfl ow or left to right airfl ow
as shown in Figure 11.

If the furnace is to be suspended from the ceiling, it will
be necessary to use steel straps around each end of the
furnace. The straps should be attached to the furnace
with sheet metal screws and to the rafters with bolts. The
furnace could also be suspended by an angle iron frame
bolted to the rafters (Figure 11.) Access for positioning
and servicing must be considered when locating the unit.
See Table 1 (page 5) for clearance specifi cations.

If the furnace is to be installed in an attic, it is required that
a drip pan be placed under the furnace. If the installation
is on a combustible platform, it is recommended that the
drip pan extend at least 12 inches past the top and front
of the furnace. Always refer to local codes.
