Pressure Housing Assembly
1. See Figure C 2-10. Lubricate the new white PTFE O-rings (7) and the
new black Buna-N O-ring (9) with O-ring lubricant and install them onto
the pressure housing (8).
NOTE: The white PTFE O-rings (7) go into the end grooves, while the
black Buna-N O-ring (9) goes into the groove between the flats and the
threads.
2. Apply a thin film of O-ring lubricant to the ID of the pressure housing (8).
3. Place the flats of the pressure ball seat (6) into the soft-jawed vise. Be
careful not to damage the packings.
4. Clean the mating parts with a residue free cleaner or degreaser.
5. Lubricate the new lower packings with O-ring lubricant and install
packings on the pressure ball seat (6).
6. Install the small ball (5) into the pressure ball seat, between the cage
ears.
7. Apply thread lock adhesive, Loctite 242, onto the threads of the
pressure ball seat (6).
8. Screw the pressure ball seat into the plunger (4). Tighten snugly and
remove the pressure ball seat from the soft-jawed vise.
9. Apply a thin film of O-ring lubricant to the OD of the plunger (4).
10. Install the plunger (4) and pressure ball seat (6) with packing into the
pressure housing (8), packing end first.
NOTE: The black O-ring (9) is at the opposite end. Use an arbor press to
press the plunger and pressure ball seat with packing into the pressure
housing one inch from the bottom. If an arbor press is not available, hold
the plunger and pressure housing and pound the assembly against a wood
block on a solid flat surface until the plunger is one inch from the bottom.
11. Center the plunger (4) and pressure housing (8) with the alignment tool,
and then remove the tool.
NOTE: The Nordson alignment tool is recommended to make assembly
easier, but the tool is not essential.
