[ Shutter/
AF-ON ]
The camera focuses when the shutter-release button is
pressed halfway.
[ AF-ON
only ]
The camera does not focus when the shutter-release
button is pressed halfway.
Option Description
[ Enable ]
Photos can be taken whenever the shutter-release button is
pressed (release priority).
[ Disable ]

Pictures can only be taken when the camera is able to
focus; note that this only applies if:
- [
Focus ] is selected for Custom Setting a1 [ AF-C priority
selection ] and an option other than [ Auto-area AF ] is
selected for AF-area mode, or
- [ Focus ] is selected for Custom Setting a2 [ AF-S priority
selection ] and an option other than [ Auto-area AF ] is
selected for AF-area mode.

Focus using the AF-ON button or other controls to which
AF-ON has been assigned.
