ID3 Tag Validator Application User Manual
Release 1.8 Revision F
58
Nielsen Confidential
INFO Tag missing on or before sequence number xx, time xxxxx.
Note
If the content that you are evaluating is less than 6 minutes long, you may not be notified of
missing INFO tags. Ask for content that
is at least 10 minutes long
.
Suggestions for Follow-up
If all or most INFO tags are missing from a file for longer than 10 minutes, make certain
that your software is properly handling the arrival of two ID3 tags immediately following
delivery of one buffer of audio.
Important
If a fail-over tag-inserter device takes over the delivery of HLS segments (including ID3 tags)
from the primary inserter device, INFO tags may be dropped. If this transition occurs just
before the primary device is scheduled to deliver an INFO tag, an INFO tag or other pending
tag may be dropped. Carefully monitor this scenario to determine if more than an acceptable
number of tags are dropped.
Improper Set-up of MPEG Multiplexer
Background
If you do not properly set up the PMT of the transport stream to indicate the presence of
the ID3 tag PES in the transport stream, neither Validator nor the mobile meters see any
Nielsen ID3 tags. Your application must follow the rules—especially the rules for PMT
and PES—in the “Timed Metadata for HTTP Live Streaming, Networking & Internet:
Protocol Streams.” See “Related Documents” on page 7.
Symptoms
If the MPEG-2 transport stream is improperly set up, you will probably not see any ID3
tags. If Validator is processing transport-stream input, the tests show “Fail” as in the
following example:
MPEG-2: PMT Descriptor Test: Fail <0 /5/0>
MPEG-2: PMT Elem Stream Test: Fail <0 /5/0>
Suggestions for Follow-up
Make certain that you have reviewed and complied with the Apple specifications noted
above. If an MPEG-2 analyzer is available, use it to examine the PMT for the proper
descriptors and the PES headers to make sure that the proper PID is applied to the
metadata stream.
