3-10 Reviewing System Features
reduces inadvertent system board damage that can take
place when replacing ROMs
facilitates adopting new technology while maintaining
corporate standards
gives network administrators company-wide control of
BIOS revisions.
Information on how to use the Flash utility is provided in
Chapter 4, “Using Tools and Utilities.”
Graphics Features
Your system supports both PCI and AGP video boards. It
features a PCI/AGP Controller (PAC) on the system board
(the 82443LX PAC). The PAC provides bus-control
signals, address paths, and data paths for transfers between
the processor’s host bus, PCI bus, the AGP, and main
memory.
The PAC in conjunction with an AGP board installed in the
AGP connector on the board support graphics-intensive
applications, such as 3D applications. AGP is independent
of the PCI bus and is intended for exclusive use with
graphical display devices. The following features are
present through the AGP interface:
Pipelined-memory read and write operations that hide
memory access latency
demultiplexing of address and data on the bus for near
100 percent bus efficiency
AC timing for 133 MHz data transfer rates, allowing
data throughput of 533 MB/sec.
The particular video board in use in your system also
affords specific capabilities. See Chapter 8 for
specifications on the video board in your system.
