2-16 Using Your Computer
Your system comes with power-saving features enabled.
The system goes into a power-saving mode of operation
Suspend mode
if you do not use the keyboard, mouse, or
drives for the preset length of inactive time. The inactive
time is set to 20 minutes by default.
Suspend mode lets you save power without first saving your
work. When the system goes into Suspend mode, it saves
data and system status and then shuts off power to all
possible components.
An amber power lamp indicates your system is in a power-
saving mode. Press a key or move your mouse to resume
system operation where you left off.
For further information, see “Power Saving Feature” in
Chapter 3, and “Power Menu” in Chapter 4.
Protecting Your Work
Your system’s security features provide protection against
unauthorized access to your system and data:
Password security
The BIOS Setup utility includes a feature that lets you
set up a user and administrator password.
The user password controls booting of the system. The
user password also controls access to the Setup utility
and keyboard. (User access to the BIOS Setup utility is
limited to a subset of all BIOS Setup parameters. The
administrator password affords full access.)
Unattended start
The Unattended start security feature, when enabled,
allows the system to boot but locks the keyboard until
the user password is entered. This feature is grayed-out
if no password has been set.
