The Chen Family
home theater system
the challenge
The Chen family was renovating the basement of their guest house off
their suburban Illinois home. They wanted to transform the space into
an entertainment area, complete with video games and a pool table. As
part of the new space, they also wanted to install a home theater
system. In addition, since the upstairs of the guest house doubles as
office space for their marketing communications firm 2GC, they
envisioned using the room and technology to deliver business
presentations to clients.
the solution
The Chens worked with audiovisual dealer Sights & Sounds to plan the
installation, deciding on a high-end system incorporating THX-certified
audio and a hi-definition satellite receiver with a built in off-air digital
tuner. For the actual image, it was decided that a home theater
projector was the best solution, since the chosen projector could
produce an image of sufficient size and quality to match the superior
acoustics – creating a true movie theater experience.
Chen heard raves from friends and business associates about NEC’s
award-winning home theater projector, featuring an intense color
palette, sharp contrast, and fine details that produce superior film-like
images. NEC’s projector was the perfect technology to work in
tandem with the theater’s 106” diagonal screen.
A contractor came in and built out the basement, framing up the walls
and completing the architectural work. Next, Sights & Sounds installed
the theater, adding plush movie theater-style seating, a BNK system, a
THX-certified audio system, a hi-definition satellite receiver and a DVD
player. Everything from the lighting in the room to the projector was
rigged to run from a single remote for ultimate east of use.
