This document describes the electrical and mechanical interfaces of the A3LA-R A3LA-R, A3LA-
R-MIL, and A3LA-R-MOD. The A3LA-R-MIL is a variation of the original A3LA-R. It functions the
same as the A3LA-R, but is also certified to environmental MIL-STD-810G standards and is IP67
rated. The A3LA-R-MOD is a variation of the A3LA-R, but is modified to satisfy UK requirements.
It functions the same as the A3LA-R, except the mounting holes specifications for the A3LA-R-
MOD are different.
Model A3LA-R is a satellite modem comprising a 9523 L-band transceiver (LBT) with an
extended input voltage range. It is designed to operate with the Iridium network. Similar to a
standard landline modem, the A3LA-R can be controlled by any data terminal equipment (DTE)
capable of sending standard AT commands via a serial port. A DTE can be a desktop computer,
a laptop computer, a smart phone, or even a microcontroller. The A3LA-R is functionally
compatible with models 9522, 9522A, 9522B, A3LA-D, A3LA-R, and A3LA-RS. It is approximately
60% smaller in volume and 50% lighter than the 9522B.
