8.21.4 Pump capacity – Check
WARNING
Fuels are combustible and explosive.
Risk of fire and explosion!
• Avoid open flames, electrical sparks and ignition sources.
• Do not smoke.
• Wear protective clothing, protective gloves, and safety glasses / facial protection.
Checking pump capacity
1.
Install suitable pressure gauge in the intake connection of the pump.
2.
Check pump pressure.
a) Switch on fuel treatment system (→ Page 90).
Note:
The pressure limiting valve at the pump might respond and open. Audible noise is caused by overflowing fuel
and can be disregarded.
b) Close ball valve at the outlet of the fuel treatment system.
c) Check pressure at the pressure gauge in the inlet to the fuel treatment system and note down.
3.
Checking pump pressure with reduced suction.
a) Reduce suction pressure of pump to -0.8 bar with the shut-off valve at the pump intake side.
b) Check pressure at the pressure gauge in the inlet to the fuel treatment system and note down.
c) Open ball valve at inlet and outlet of fuel treatment system.
4.
Calculate wear limit.
Example:
Measured value (normal condition).
3 bar
Measured value (reduced suction condition).
2.6 bar
The wear limit has been reached when the measured value (reduced suction) is 10% lower than the meas-
ured pressure (normal). Repair pump (Contact Service).
