Surge Protection
Unlike indoor CBSDs, outdoor CBSDs require a special surge protection.
The following areas require surge protection for Nitro CBSDs:
• AC surge protection – between the power mains and the AC/DC converter
• DC surge protection – between the AC/DC converter and the CBSD/ENB
• RF surge protection – between the CBSD/ENB and the antennas
• GPS Receiver surge protection – between the CBSD/ENB (assuming you are not directly mounting)
and the GPS antenna, and between the PTP server and the GPS antenna
• Ethernet surge protection – between the CBSD/ENB and the Ethernet switch and between the
CBSD/ENB and the fiber/copper media converter
NOTICE:
Motorola Solutions sells the surge protection devices appropriate for the installation. If
you want to use different surge protection devices, make sure they have a technical
specification equivalent to or better than the suggested hardware.
For the best hardware protection, all surge protectors must be installed according to best practice.
Refer to "Surge Protective Devices" in
Standards and Guidelines for Communication Sites R56
