Getting Started
The Cradle is configured with default values to run out-of-the box. Once the cradle is connected to a
network, all you need to do is to power the cradle by plugging the power supply of the cradle to an
electrical sock.
How Does the Cradle Work?
When connected to a Local Area Network, the cradle use the DHCP protocol. DHCP is short for
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, a protocol for assigning dynamic IP addresses to devices on a
network. Whenever the cradle is connected to the network the cradle acquires separate IP address for
itself and for each one of its bays (note that IP address is assigned to a bay and not to a HC700-G inside
a bay).
With dynamic addressing, a cradle can have a different IP addresses every time it connects to the net-
work. Dynamic addressing simplifies network administration because the software keeps track of IP
addresses rather than requiring an administrator management. This means, that a new HC700-G can be
docked into a cradle bay and connects to a network without manually assigning it a unique IP address.
Ethernet Mode
When the cradle is in DHCP process - acquiring IP address for it self and its bays, all the green COMM
LEDs are blinking in same rate (every 0.5 second). The LEDs will turn off when the cradle acquires all
its IP address.
This green COMM LEDs may blink again during normal operation, if the DHCP server cuts-off the
communication with the cradle or if the cradle Ethernet cable is unplugged. The LEDs will stop blink-
ing after the cradle successfully re-acquire all its IP address from DHCP server.
Modem Mode
If the cradle doesn’t find a DHCP server during power-up, it verifies modem connection by sending an
AT command to the modem and waiting for response.
All the green COMM LEDs are blinking as long as the DHCP server doesn’t respond to the cradle's
modem. The LEDs will stop blinking after a successful respond.
When the initialization and DHCP process are finished, all the bay LEDs will turn off. At this point the
cradle is ready for use, and should be operating normally. Users may then insert the HC700-G units
for charging and for connecting them to the network.
