12.3 Motor locking lever
Your Moretti wheelchair has an automatic motor brake on
each motor that prevents involuntary movement of the
wheelchair. You can disable this system if you need to move
the wheelchair manually, using the motor disengage levers.
When the levers are in position N (NEUTRAL), the motor
is disengaged and the wheelchair may be moved freely.
When the lever is in position D (DRIVE), the motor is engaged
and the wheelchair can be used with the joystick. If the
wheelchair is switched on when the lever is in position N,
the alarm lights will indicate an anomaly and the electric
wheelchair will be prevented from moving.
When the lever is in position N, the motor brake is disabled.
Avoid disabling the motor on sloping ground.
Do not use the wheelchair with the levers in position N (NEUTRAL), unless
someone is accompanying you. When the motor disconnection levers are in
position N (NEUTRAL), the electromechanical brake is also disabled.
13. USING THE ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR
Before you get into your electric wheelchair, make sure you are on a flat surface with no
obstacles. Although your wheelchair is designed for use on slopes, it is safer to practise using
it on a flat surface. Several checks to make before every use are indicated below:
• Check functioning of the horn.
• Check correct functioning of the batteries and charge them if necessary
• Always check correct and stable assembly of all the parts of your electrical wheelchair
• Always check the state of wear and tear and functioning of the parts, in order to guarantee
that the device is used in total safety; in particular, check the state of wear and tear,
damage to and pressure of the front and rear tyres
• The motor unlocking lever must be in position D (DRIVE).
• It is recommended to select a low speed for the first few times you use it.
Follow these steps to use the electric wheelchair:
1. Sit on your wheelchair and press the ON/OFF button. The LED indicator lights of the
battery charger must be lit up. The control and self-diagnosis light must not be flashing.
2. Rest your forearm firmly on the armrest and place your hand on the controller. After
switching on the wheelchair, wait two seconds before activating the joystick. This is
a safety feature to prevent sudden start-ups.
3. The joystick central lever controls all movements of the wheelchair. If you move the lever
forwards, the wheelchair moves forwards. If you move the lever backwards, the wheelchair
moves backwards. If you move the lever to the left, the wheelchair moves to the left.
If you move the lever to the right, the wheelchair moves to the right. When you release
