Drive Belt
#36855 B76 V Belt
- 21/32’’ Width X 79’’ Length
It is important to periodically check belt tension and condition. Frayed, cracked or worn drive belts should be replaced
immediately.
The clutch on the engine shaft features an internal brake. When engaged, it brakes the engine pulley to stop the belt dive
and blade pulleys. When the belt is in worn or loose, the ability to stop the rotor quickly may be affected.
IMPORTANT! When changing or removing drive belt check belt tension, adjust if required.
Wear appropriate personal protection equipment.
Remove Belt
Make sure the engine is off, key is removed and pocketed
and components are cool to touch before starting this
procedure. Be aware of possible sharp edges and
confined working space.
1. Remove left and right pulley shields and carefully set
them aside:
• Remove the two bolts that hold each shield to the
deck.
• Loosen (do not remove) the two nuts that hold
each shield to the motor mount.
• Clean out any debris inside the drive
compartment.
2. Release the tension on the belt by removing the idler
wheel tension turnbuckle nut and washer.
3. Remove the turnbuckle and tension spring from the
idler arm for clear access to the belt.
4. The belt should be loose enough to carefully remove
from the pulley’s.
Install Belt
Inspect and clean the pulleys, check that the idler arm is
free and easy to move. Grease the idler arm weldment
grease zerk if required.
1. Install the new belt onto the pulleys (see belt routing
below for reference)
2. Attach the turnbuckle and spring, and insert the
turnbuckle into the spring bracket hole, fasten the
washer and nut.
3. Tighten the nut to apply tension. Tension is correct
when the spring measures 9.2 cm to 9.5cm (3.625 to
3.75“).
