Security Access Registers

Issue 2, June 1999
If the subscriber side is off-hook, when a password is entered incorrectly, the Dialer will hang
up the Exchange Line side and process the call so that the FAX machine or telephone may
operate. If the FAX machine or telephone goes off hook during a lockout period, the Dialer
will leave lockout and allow the call to processed. The Dialer keeps the Exchange Line side
seized during lockout, which denies all incoming calls for a period of time defined by Register
129. If the 603 Register is empty, this method of entering programming is not available.
5. 3. Terminal Program Security Code
MITEL recommends entering a unique security code for terminal programming access to the
Dialer
5. 4. Remote Access Code
The contents of the 606 Register can be used for entering modem programming mode
remotely. After the FAX machine answers, the remote user must wait for the “quiet time”
between the FAX tone, and then send a string of digits that will match the contents of the 606
Register. If the Dialer auto-answers it will send an MF4 “1” to the remote point to confirm that
the Dialer has answered the call, and that the FAX machine is split away. The confirmation
tone will not be heard if the call is manually answered on the FAX side of the Dialer. If the
Dialer detects a match, modem carrier tone will be presented to the remote point for the
predetermined time defined in the 011 Register (see page 36). If the modem connects, the
Dialer will expect to receive a string of digits that will match those of the contents of the 604
Register. Once the string of digits are confirmed, modem programming mode is entered.
If the modem fails to connect, the Dialer will send an MF4 “B” to the remote point, and then
expect to receive a string of digits that will match those of the contents of the 603 Register.
If the 606 Register is empty, all remote programming access becomes unavailable.
Note: When doing unattended modem programming to access a Dialer remotely, the local
device should continuously send the Remote Access Code to the remote Dialer. This method of
sending the Remote Access Code is done to make certain that the Remote Access Code is sent
during the silent period (between the FAX tones) of the FAX machine. The remote Dialer
confirms the Remote Access Code by finding a match in the 606 Register.
