Upgrading Existing Systems to v5.x and later Software

This section provides detailed information on upgrading an existing v5.x (or earlier) or 6.0 system 

to the v6.2 or later system software release.Version 6.2 or later software operates on the HX 

Controller hardware platform.

Note: 

Version 6.2 software is not supported on the CS Controller hardware platform.

Please read all of the following information before continuing.

Two Upgrade Options

There are two available upgrade options:
•

Replace the Memory Card:

 The first option (recommended) is to simply replace an existing 

v1.2 or later compact flash-type memory card with a new v6.2GA compact flash-type memory 

card (one GB or two GB) that ships with the v6.2 GA software already installed on it. Note that 

v6.2 GA compact flash-type memory cards also include the latest core Linux file system that 

was released with the v4.0/v5.x system software release. See page 372 for a list of available 

v6.1 or later compact flash-type memory cards. This procedure is documented beginning on 

page 313.

•

Upgrade the Memory Card: 

If a v6.2 GA compact flash-type memory card is not available, the 

second option is to upgrade an existing v4.0 or v5.x system via the Administrative Web Portal 

(AWP) application. Note that this 

requires at least a one GB card

.

If upgrading a 

v3.2

 or earlier system with a minimum CF size of 1 GB

, the system must first be 

upgraded to v4.0 or v5.x using a two-step method that requires an intermediate core Linux file 

system package be installed prior to installing the v4.0 or v5.x software version release package. 

This procedure is documented beginning on page 315.

If upgrading a 

v4.0

 system,

 the latest core Linux file system was already installed along with 

v4.0, so only the system software is upgraded. This procedure is documented beginning on 

page 316.

If the system is equipped with a Processing Server (PS-1), the PS-1 is upgraded separately using 

a boot CD (for v3.2, v4.0, v5.x, v6.0, or v6.1) or the AWP application (for v4.0, v5.x, v6.0, or v6.1). 

For a v3.2 or earlier PS-1, you must use the boot CD in order to upgrade the Linux file system that 

was changed in v4.0 (you cannot upgrade the Linux file system using the AWP application). Specific 

instructions are included in the procedures documented on the following pages.

Compatibility

If replacing an existing memory card with a new v6.2 GA card, Mitel supports software upgrades 

from v1.2 or later, as long as the appropriate licensing progression is obtained.

If upgrading an existing memory card to v6.1 GA, Mitel only supports upgrades from v4.0 or v5.x to 

v6.2 GA. Systems with software v3.2 or earlier must first upgrade to v4.0 or v5.x prior to upgrading 

to v6.2 GA. (Note that older databases themselves can be converted directly to v6.1 GA.)

NOTE

Once the core Linux files have been downloaded and upgraded for either v4.0 or v5.x GA, 

there is no need to download them again for future v4.x or v5.x software upgrades.
