volume level attempts to compensate for any loss in the external OPX circuit. Refer to the
MiVoice
Office 250 Features and Programming Guide
However, in certain off-premises applications, the voice volume levels may still be unacceptable.
The degradation in voice volume is due to the natural voice frequency range limitations of the
telephone company or customer-provided circuit. To increase the frequency range, Mitel
recommends installing a two-wire, negative impedance repeater unit. Such units typically provide
from 0–15 dB of voice volume gain and allow regulation of the gain in each direction when
simultaneous voice transmission occurs. The switching sensitivity on the unit should also be
adjustable.
The repeater unit is installed at the MDF between the station block and the cabling to the OPX phone.
For OPX installation instructions, see “Connecting CO Trunk Cables to the MDF” on page 153.
When ordering a repeater unit, consult with the supplier for ordering the proper mounting shelf and
power supply for the unit. Typically, the product includes additional information about operating and
adjusting the repeater unit.
Playback Devices
AC-ringing playback devices may be connected to the single line port on the chassis or to IP SLAs.
Each IP SLA supports one device. A playback device is an answering machine that answers the
call, plays a message, and then disconnects from the call. Playback devices are installed like single
line phones, using one-pair twisted cable and four-conductor modular jacks. The device must be
able to detect ringing, provide ring trip, and automatically disconnect when the announcement is
completed. For IP SLA installation instructions, see “Installing an IP SLA” on page 304. For installing
a selected playback device, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Playback devices may be used with hunt groups to speed up call processing. Hunt groups can have
three types of special phones: announcement stations, overflow stations, and recall destination
stations. These types of phones may be equipped with a playback device that answers the call, then
disconnects to transfer it back to the hunt group. For more information, refer to the
MiVoice Office
250 Features and Programming Guide
.
Playback devices are programmed as regular single line phones that are assigned an extension
number. If the device is sensitive to Camp On tones and disconnects calls, the programmer can
disable the Camp On for that phone circuit. For programming details, refer to the
MiVoice Office 250
Features and Programming Guide
.
NOTE
Each OPX circuit can have extended ring cadence enabled or disabled. For details, refer to
the
MiVoice Office 250 Features and Programming Guide
. The extended setting lengthens
the duration of the ring signal to meet the requirements of many OPX and/or repeater
applications. The default setting is
disabled
.
NOTE
For Automated Attendant features and for optimal playback device performance and
functionality, use an optional Unified Voice Messaging (UVM) or NuPoint Unified Messaging
(UM) system and applications software instead of IP SLA circuits.
