CORDLESS (DECT) HANDSET AND HEADSET
The Cordless (DECT) Handset and Headset are supported on the 5330, 5340 and 5360 IP
phones.
A Cordless Module must be installed in the back of the IP phone to allow operation with the
Cordless Accessories. For details see the
Cordless Module and Accessories Installation Guide
for Mitel 5330, 5340 or 5360 IP Phones
available at Mitel OnLine.
The Cordless (DECT) Handset and Headset allow the user to move limited distances away
from their desk within their office or adjacent offices while holding a telephone conversation.
These accessories are targeted at the typical knowledge worker and are not intended to be a
solution for mobile workers who may want to roam throughout the enterprise. If support for
enterprise roaming is required then a different Mitel solution should be utilized such as the
DECT DeTeWe or SpectraLink offerings.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
5330, 5340 and 5360 IP phones will still register with the 3300 as 5330/5340/5360 sets even
when a Cordless Module is installed.
INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS
Communication between the Cordless Module in the 5330, 5340 and 5360, and the Cordless
(DECT) Handset/Headset can be negatively affected by certain types of office equipment and
certain building structures, the installer should consider the following when installing the phone
set:
•
Steel structures such as shelves, filing cabinets and dividers will block or impede the trans-
mission of RF signals.
•
Building materials such as steel doors, steel reinforced concrete, concrete, drywall and
wood will block or attenuate RF transmission to varying amounts.
COVERAGE AND CAPACITY
Many factors affect the coverage and capacity performance of the Cordless (DECT) Handset
and Headset.
First, is the RF spectrum allocated for DECT, which differs based on geographic area. The Mitel
Cordless Module and Accessories (Handset and Headset) come in two variants. The first works
in the Standard DECT band of 1880 - 1900 MHz, the second is a DECT 6.0 variant that works
in the frequency band of 1920 - 1930 MHz.
Note:
Both the Handset and Headset will emit a repetitive 3-pitch tone when they are
out of communication range with the 5330, 5340 and 5360, the warning tone will cease
either after one minute has elapsed or when the user moves back into communication
range.
