5. Operation
Summary
As an example, a ‘Take’ button is disabled until you have a destination and a source selected. Then,
the ‘Take’ button goes high tally (red, by default).
By default, category buttons show the category mnemonic and source buttons show the source
device mnemonic. By default, destination buttons show the destination device mnemonic and salvo
buttons show the salvo mnemonic.
Of particular interest are the legends on the selection buttons and the ‘X-Y Display’ button in both
X-Y and multi-destination modes. These buttons carry 3 lines of important information.
Levels
In X-Y mode, a set of selection buttons presents a set of virtual levels that you can select and dese-
lect for breakaway takes. Call them “level” buttons for the sake of simplicity. You can also use the
level buttons to perform level-mapping. See the
function on page 52.
If you have more levels than buttons, you can use ‘Page Up’ and ‘Page Down’ scroll buttons to
view all the levels. (Those buttons are disabled when there is nothing to scroll.)
The display shows 3 levels at a time, as determined by the current destination:
In X-Y mode, the selection buttons represent levels. Each displays 3 lines of text:
The
top
line of text identifies the current source and should be identical to the matching entry in the
‘Status’ column of the display. The
middle
line identifies the
preset
source, not visible in the dis-
play. If there is no ‘Take’ pending, the preset fields will be blank. The
bottom
row of text shows a
level for the current destination and should be identical to the matching entry in the ‘Level/Dest’
column of the display.

The display shows the current destination at the
top. Here, it is VTR--1. The left column shows the
current source. The right column shows the level
names for the current destination.
The symbols at the very right of the display indi-
cate whether a level is selected. Here, levels HD
and timecode are
not
selected.
It might be necessary to scroll the display to view
all levels.
