Operating Concepts
Chop
The chop function is a diagnostic function for routers that support chop. It allows you to switch rap-
idly between two sources at a particular destination. The chop interval is defined in the NV9000
configuration. The default chop interval is 6
fields .
Case 1 — Single-Destination Mode, with or without Breakaway
Follow these steps:
1 Verify that the default destination appears in the ‘Destination’ field of the display.
2 Optionally press ‘Source Shift’ to toggle between the source pages.
3 Press a source button. This is the first source.
4 Press the chop button.
5 Optionally press ‘Source Shift’ to toggle between the source pages.
6 Press another source button. This is the second source. The chop is immediately activated on
the routers (of the default destination) that support chop.
To terminate the chop, (1) press the chop button again to turn it off, then (2) select any source.
Case 2 — Limited X-Y Mode
Follow these steps:
1 Optionally press ‘Destination Shift’ to toggle between the destination pages.
2 Press a destination button. The ‘Destination’ field of the display shows the destination you
chose.
3 Optionally press ‘Source Shift’ to toggle between the source pages.
4 Press a source button. This is the first source.
5 Press the chop button.
6 Optionally press ‘Source Shift’ to toggle between the source pages.
7 Press another source button. This is the second source. The chop is immediately activated on
the routers (of the default destination) that support chop.
To terminate the chop, (1) press the chop button again to turn it off, (2) select the destination you
had chosen for the chop, then (3) select any source.
Case 3 — Multi-Destination Mode
Follow these steps:
1 Optionally press ‘Source Shift’ to toggle between the source pages.
2 Press a source button. This is the first source.
3 Press the chop button.
4 Optionally press ‘Source Shift’ to toggle between the source pages.
5 Press another source button that
uses the same destination as the first. This becomes the second
source for the chop. The chop is immediately activated on the routers (of the default destina-
tion) that support chop.
To terminate the chop, (1) press the chop button again to turn it off, then (3) select any source.
