Errors and alarms are briefly defined in the table below. See the Metrodata LM1100 SNMP
Enabler user manual for more comprehensive information on these definitions and the MIB’s
which apply to each interface type.

Physical Layer Error Definitions

BIP

Parity errors (BIP-8). SDH/Sonet further defines these as B1 BIP, B2

BIP and B3 BIP3 errors.

FEBE

Far End Block Errors SDH/

Sonet further defines FEBE’s as Path FEBE or Line FEBE.

Code

Physical Layer Alarm Definitions

LOS

Loss of Signal: the Layer 0 receiver cannot detect signal.

OOF

Out of Frame: Layer 1 frame out of synchronisation.

AIS

Alarm Indication Signal: data pattern of all 1’s has been detected.

RAI

Remote Alarm Indication

FERF

Far End Receive Failure: this is equivalent to an RAI.

OOSP

Out of Spec Clock: caused by TX PLL having problems locking.
