Do not bleed the fuel system of engines
OM 470/471/473 using multiple starting
procedures. Otherwise you can damage the starter.
Ë
If you start the engine after bleeding: Wait for
10 minutes are three starting attempts. You could
otherwise damage the starter.
Bleeding vehicles with engines OM 470/471/473 with the
hand pump at the engine:
M
Switch electronic ignition lock to drive position.
M
Tilt cab forwards, see page 22.
M
Open the cap of the fuel tank.
M
Unscrew bolts

Remove cover

Press handle on hand pump

about 250 times within
about 3 minutes until a noticeable resistance can be felt.
M
Within about 5 seconds, press the external engine start/
stop button and start the engine, see page 24.
Note that you must start the engine within about 5 seconds
of building up the fuel pressure with the hand pump

. Ot-
herwise the fuel pressure drops and you will have to repeat
the process.

If the engine starts:
Run engine with increased engine
speed.
M
If the engine does not start:
Repeat the procedure.

Install cover

Tilt the cab back to the driving position, see page 21.

Close the cap of the fuel tank.
