5 Insertion and/or Hotswap Extraction
Before starting any procedure on the MTS3610 Switch system put an ESD prevention wrist strap
on your wrist and connect to the MTS3610 Chassis.
This switch platform supports Hotswap capabilities for the:
• Power supply units
• Leaf boards
• Spine boards
• Leaf fan module
• Spine fan module
• Management modules
5.1 Power Supply Units
A PSU (Power Supply Unit) can be extracted without bringing down the system. At least five
PSUs must remain working during a hotswap.
The power required to run the switch system is equally divided between all of the working PSUs.
When initially populating the system make sure that the five vertically oriented PSUs are installed
before the horizontally oriented PSUs.
5.2 Extracting and Inserting the Power Supply Unit
With more than six power supplies installed, the system is in the redundant configuration, any sin-
gle PSU may be extracted without bringing down the system.
To extract a PSU:
1. Remove the power cord from the power supply unit.
2. Unscrew the cable clip and put the clip and screws aside for later.
