Main Boom Assembly
THIS PROCESS REQUIRES SPECIFIC REPAIR SKILLS AND
EXPERIENCE, APPROPRIATE LIFTING EQUIPMENT AND A PROPER
WORKPLACE������ DEATH, SERIOUS INJURY OR SIGNIFICANT MACHINE
DAMAGE COULD OCCUR IF YOU ATTEMPT THIS PROCESS WITHOUT
THE APPROPRIATE SKILLS AND EQUIPMENT������

Main Boom Sections
Park the machine on a firm level surface.
Throughout this procedure, thoroughly clean all
hydraulic connections and tag all hoses for proper
reassembly before disconnecting them. Immediately
plug and cap all openings to prevent contamination. Tag
electrical connections before disconnecting them.
Remove the Platform/Jib Assembly and Platform Level
Cylinder on page 71.
Remove the Boom Extend Cylinder on page 73.
Remove the Main Boom Assembly as described in
steps 1 through 12 of the Boom Lift Cylinders/Boom
Linkage disassembly procedure on page 75. Set the
Main Boom Assembly on stands for further disassembly.
Remove the cable track and associated machine parts
from the boom. Lay all cable and hoses out of the way
to avoid damage.
Slide the End Section of the boom out approximately
6 feet (2 m). Position an overhead hoist over the End
Section and attach a sling. 1.

Remove the side and the top inner wear pads and
shims from the front of the boom’s Base Section.
Apply slight lifting pressure.
Remove the bottom inner wear pad from the front of the
boom’s Base Section.
Extract the End Section from the front of the boom by
carefully pulling and lifting with the hoist or forklift. Once
the End Section has been extracted approximately
90%, use a second hoist or fork lift to support the end of
the End Section that remains inside the boom.
Carefully extract the boom End Section completely.
Remove the wear pads from the End Section 8.
