MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
1. C − 6533/ARC ICS Control Panel
Replacement
(Ref. Figure 201)
Check that all electrical power
is OFF.
(1). Loosen four turnlock fasteners in front
panel of ICS control panel by rotating
them 1/4 turn counterclockwise, and
pull unit out of cavity far enough to
access connector.
(2). Disconnect wiring harness connector
from unit connector (loosen two screws).
Tighten connector screws alter­
nately (next step) to prevent
damage to connector.
(3). To replace, first connect wiring harness
connector to unit connector.
(4). Position ICS control panel in mounting
position and secure by rotating four
turnlock fasteners 1/4 turn clockwise.
A. Control Knob Replacement
Control knobs are fastened to the control
shafts by two setscrews in each control knob.
The setscrews must be tightened to retain the
knobs on the shafts no closer than 0.0625 in.
(1.5875 mm) from the front panel.
B. Lamp Replacement
The lamps are miniature flange-style base
incandescent lamps inserted in plasticized
panel lenses. Remove the lenses from the
panel by turning them counterclockwise.
Remove the lamps from the lenses using a
thin-blade instrument.
2. Intercommunications System Operational
Checks
Perform the following checks at pilot, copilot
and observer stations:
NOTE:
Field maintenance personnel perform­
ing the following tests shall be thoroughly
familiar with the operational characteristics
of the C-6533/ARC and interfacing radios.
Prior to proceeding with the tests, personnel
shall ensure that all interfacing radios are
energized in accordance with the operating
procedures (Ref. applicable sections of this
manual), and that all transmitters are
channeled to unoccupied channels.
It may not always be permissi­
ble to operate communication
transmitters. In the absence of radio com­
munication, normal receiver noise may be
used to verify proper operation.
(1). Check that mechanical action of each
switch and knob on ICS control panels
is smooth and free of binding, and that
there is no excessive looseness. Check
for positive indication of detents.
(2). Check to see that all headsets are
plugged into their respective harnesses.
(3). Check to ensure that all receiver select
(toggle) switches on ICS control panels
are in OFF position and all transmitter
select (rotary) switches are in ICS
position.
(4). Press ICS circuit breakers to ON
position.
(5). Press rocker switch on pilot's (copilot's)
cyclic stick (or toggle switch on avionics
rack at observer station) to ICS
position. Speak into microphone;
sidetone should be heard in all head­
sets. Release rocker switch (or toggle
switch) when message is completed.
(6). Rotate transmitter select switch to
position 1. Press rocker switch on pilot's
(or co-pilot's) cyclic stick (or observer's
toggle switch) to ICS position and speak
into microphone; sidetone should be
heard in headset. While listening to
sidetone, check operation of VOL
control on ICS control panel; sidetone
level should vary with movement of
VOL control. Release rocker switch (or
toggle switch).
