8.5 Overlap and offset adjustment
The left and right suspension arms can be extended and/or retracted laterally to allow
variations of overlap and/or offset with the front mower. When mowing in straight lines,
the overlap can be set to a minimum, allowing for the maximum cutting width. However
when following curves or meandering, the overlap needs to be increased, which
reduces the effective cutting width. The offset can be altered to equalise the left and
right overlap and is often used when following long slow curves to either the left or the
right. There is a valve lever to the rear of the mower which can be set in either the offset
position (left) or the overlap position (right).
Each arm has a decal, with six 50 mm panels as shown, to provide a visual indication
of the exact offset or overlap, giving a maximum of 300 mm variation on each side.
The lever should always be returned to the RH overlap position. Once work is
complete, both LH and RH suspension arms should be retracted fully before raising the
mower beds into the upright position, to keep the transport height to a minimum.
CAUTION: Ensure the mower bed is stable before disconnection
Before disconnecting the mower from the tractor, always ensure the
mower bed is first lowered to the ground for stability.
WARNING: Height clearance
The operator must ensure that there is a minimum of 1 m clearance
between the machine and any obstacle above, like low bridges, arches
or tunnels. But in the case of electrical high voltage lines a minimum
clearance of 4 m should be allowed.
