DTC P0315 (MZI-3.5) DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
DETECTION
CONDITION
z
The PCM is unable to learn and correct for mechanical inaccuracies in the
crankshaft pulse wheel tooth spacing. This DTC disables the misfire
monitor.
POSSIBLE CAUSE

Crankshaft pulse wheel teeth malfunction
z
CKP sensor malfunction

VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA
HAS BEEN RECORDED
z
Has FREEZE FRAME DATA
been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record FREEZE FRAME DATA on the
repair order, then go to the next step.

VERIFY RELATED REPAIR
INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
z
Verify related Service Bulletins
and/or on-line repair information
availability.
z
Is any related Service Bulletins
available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to
the available Service Bulletins.
z
If the vehicle is not repaired, go to
the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY RELATED PENDING
CODE OR STORED DTCs
z
Turn the ignition switch off then
to the ON position (Engine off).
z
Verify related pending code or
stored DTCs.
z
Are other DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the appropriate DTC
troubleshooting.

No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT PHYSICAL CONDITION
OF CRANKSHAFT PULSE WHEEL
z
Inspect the crankshaft pulse wheel
NOTE:
z
DTC P0315 is set when the PCM
is unable to learn and correct for
the mechanical variations in the
crankshaft pulse wheel tooth
spacing (the allowable
correction tolerances are
exceeded).
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair if necessary. Then go to Step 6.
