CHT sensor circuit intermittent/erratic
DETECTION
CONDITION
z
Indicates the ECT circuit became intermittently open or shorted while the
engine was running.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
z
Harness malfunction
z
Connector or terminal malfunction
z
Low engine coolant
z
CHT sensor malfunction
STEP
INSPECTION
ACTION
1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA
HAS BEEN RECORDED
z
Has FREEZE FRAME DATA
been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record FREEZE FRAME DATA on the
repair order, then go to the next step.

VERIFY RELATED REPAIR
INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
z
Verify related Service Bulletins
availability.
z
Is any related Service Bulletins
available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to
available Service Bulletins.
z
If vehicle is not repaired, go to the
next step.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CONNECTOR FOR
POOR CONNECTION
z
Turn the ignition switch off.
z
Disconnect PCM connector and
CHT sensor connectors.
z
Inspect for poor connection (such
as damaged, pulled-out pins, and
corrosion).
z
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace suspected part, then go to
Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.

INTERMITTENT INSPECTION
z
Turn the ignition switch to the ON
position (Engine off).
z
Access the PCM and monitor the
CHT PID.
z
While observing the PID, perform
the following:
Yes
Inspect the CHT sensor.

CYLINDER HEAD
TEMPERATURE (CHT) SENSOR
INSPECTION [MZI-3.5].
)
Replace if necessary, then go to Step 7.
