General Information
Towing
The maximum towing speed is 32 km/hr (20 mi/hr).
Do not tow the baler with a towing vehicle that weighs less
than 2588 kg (5700 lb).
Always install the transport safety chain between the baler
and tractor drawbar.
•
Use a safety chain with a strength rating equal to or
more than the gross weight of the towed baler.
•
Supply only enough slack in the safety chain to permit
turning.
•
Do not use the transport safety chain as a tow chain
for towing.
Know and follow all road regulations that apply to your
baler.
Learn about the laws and regulations that apply to the
movement of farm equipment on public roads.
FIG. 33:
Make sure the amber flashing lamps and red
tail lamps are in location and in working order.
Never tow the baler on the road with the rear working
lamps turned on.
Make sure reflectors are installed, in good condition and
wiped clean.
Be sure the SMV emblem is clean, can be seen, and is on
the rear of the baler.
Always know the locations of other drivers who are on the
road with you. Keep well over to your side of the road. Pull
over, when possible, to let faster drivers pass.
Adjust travel speed to be in control of the baler and tractor
at all times. Never permit the machines to go down hills in
neutral.
Know the overall width and length of the baler. Be careful
when transporting the baler on narrow roads and across
narrow bridges.
Fire Prevention
FIG. 34:
To reduce the danger of fire or damage if fire
occurs:
•
Have a water fire extinguisher on the towing vehicle.
You can get water fire extinguishers from your dealer.
•
Check the baler daily for any noises which are not
normal. Such noises can indicate a failed bearing
which can over heat and start a fire.
•
When finished baling or before leaving the baler,
check for piles of hay on the towing vehicle and on the
baler. Remove any hay that can catch fire.
•
Check for hot areas on the baler and clean loose hay
from the baler.
•
Keep the towing vehicle and baler free of trash.
Many hay crops will burn easily. Locate a water fire
extinguisher in easy reach on the towing vehicle when
baling.
