Rad-5 Device Settings
This section gives an overview of available Rad-5 menu selections.
These selections DO NOT
apply to the Rad-5v.
To navigate through the menus, use the Mode/Enter, Next, and Up and
Down keys located on the front panel of the oximeter below the LED display. The following
sub-sections describe each menu in more detail. The oximeter has options that allow user
configuration to suit specific needs.
Sensitivity (Rad-5)
The Rad-5 is equipped with 3 different sensitivity modes. Each mode allows the clinician to
change the sensitivity settings of the device to meet the increased demands of the patient’s
physiological condition or enable it to work during periods of low perfusion and/or motion.
See
Menu Level 2 - Averaging, Sensitivity, FastSat, and SmartTone
on page 34. They are as
follows:
Normal Sensitivity (Nor) –
This is the recommended mode for patients that are
experiencing some compromise in blood flow or perfusion. It is advisable for care areas
where patients are observed frequently, such as an intensive care unit (ICU).
Adaptive Probe Off Detection (APO) –
This is the recommended start-up monitoring mode
for most patients with acceptable perfusion or where a more robust sensor off detection is
desired. It is the suggested mode for care areas where patients are not visually monitored
continuously. This mode delivers enhanced protection against erroneous pulse rate and
arterial oxygen saturation readings when a sensor becomes inadvertently detached from a
patient.
Maximum Sensitivity (HI) –
This mode is recommended for patients with low perfusion or
when the low perfusion or low signal quality message is displayed on the screen in adaptive
probe off detection or normal sensitivity mode. This mode is not recommended for care
areas where patients are not monitored visually, such as general wards. It is designed to
interpret and display data at the measuring site when the signal may be weak due to
decreased perfusion. When a sensor becomes detached from a patient, it will have
compromised protection against erroneous pulse rate and arterial saturation readings. In
