3.2.3. Water inlet unit components
The two water inlet units (steam and washing/drain) are constructively equal and consist
of:
- Water inlet with built-in filter
- Water solenoid valve
- Flow meter
- Calibrated dispenser

The flow meter provides a number of pulses to the board, proportional to the amount of
water that passes through the component. Therefore, if there is no flow due to an
obstruction anywhere in the circuit, the flow meter is able to identify the anomaly while a
pressure switch system could not do it. The flow meter cannot be bypassed: if the cable is
disconnected, an alarm is generated.
Please note that, having replaced the pressure switch with the flow meter, the water
control logic is no longer based on time (ON/OFF cycles according to certain timing) but on
the amount of water. Basically, every X seconds a certain amount Y of water is delivered
which corresponds to a certain number of pulses read by the flow meter. Therefore, the
water solenoid valve closes when the flow meter has counted the preset number of pulses,
regardless of the time elapsed since the valve was opened. Therefore, the system is able
to auto-compensate any flow rate variations.
