Carefully read the Operating Instructions before starting any work!
This is especially valid for the chapter on General Safety Instructions 
and the safety instructions in each of the chapters.

8.4.9

Exhaust gas turbocharger

At every engine oil change check the oil lines for leaks and restrictions.

Charge air and exhaust pipes should also be inspected periodically. Leaks are to be immediately elimin­
ated, since these cause damage to the engine.

8.4.10 Charge air cooler

The water/ air charge cooler is a part supplied by MAN and requires no regular cleaning.

Air / Air charge air cooling systems are not supplied by MAN. These charge air cooling systems are to be
cleaned after discussion with the vehicle manufacturer and depending on the level of soiling.

8.4.11 Starter

WARNING!

Risk of injury during work on the electrical system!

A sudden start up of the engine or a short-circuit in the battery circuit can lead to serious
injury to persons and damage to property.

For this reason:

Before commencing work on electrical equipment first make sure that the battery ground
cable is disconnected.

S

When restoring the connections leave the ground cable till last.

Inspect the electrical cables for correct fixing and secure contact; check the plug connections.

On engines with electronic speed sensors on the flywheel (e.g. electronic governors and EDC) the speed
sensors are likewise to be kept clean and any metal swarf and filings removed.

8.4.12 3-phase generator

The 3-phase generator is maintenance-free.
However, it must be protected from dust and above all from dampness.

In order to avoid damage to the 3-phase generator observe the following:

With the engine running

Do not switch off the battery main switch!

D

Do not loosen the battery or pole terminals and cables in the network!

D

If the charge control lamp comes on suddenly during operation, shut down the engine immediately and
eliminate the faults in the electrical system!

D

Only allow the engine to run with correctly operating charge control!

D

Short-circuits (even due to momentary contact) of the generator and governor connections and to
ground are not permissible!

D

Do not allow the generator to run without a battery connection!
