Cutting Units
The Alroh mower cuts the grass with a clean scissor like action as
the spinning cylinder/reel passes the bottom blade. Regular ad-
justment is required to maintain a light brushing contact between
the cylinder and the entire length of the bottom blade.
On all Alroh mowers, the cutting cylinder is firmly fixed in posi-
tion and the bottom blade is pivoted upwards to maintain the fine
cutting action.
Adjusters are located left and right on the front edge of the de-
flector plate. Loosen the front nuts by turning anti-clockwise
about 1/8th of a turn and then tighten the rear nuts by turning in
the same anti-clockwise direction. Continue evenly left and right
until light contact has been restored.
A piece of paper or a blade of grass can be used to test the cut.
Regular fine blade adjustment will extend the time before the
blades will need sharpening.
Excessive pressure between the cutting blades will indicate that
the mower needs sharpening so as to avoid slipping belts, stalling
the engine and premature blade wear.
Occasionally, accidental damage can be caused to the corners of
the bottom blade when hard objects are hit. This can cause an
alarming noise. By reclining the mower slightly and manually
rotating the cutting cylinder it will be possible to determine which
end is causing the problem and an adjustable spanner can be used
to lightly bend that end of the bottom blade away from the cylin-
der.
If the lawn has become overgrown, it is recommended to cut only
a third of the leaf height at one time and return soon after for a
second lower cut until the required finish is achieved.

Safety—Caution
•
Know your machine & read these instructions
•
Keep hands & feet clear of the blades & moving parts.
•
Stop the engine before clearing obstructions or working on the
mower.
•
Check all nuts, bolts and screws often, always be sure the mower is
in safe condition and use only genuine replacement parts.
•
Learn how to stop the mower in event of an emergency
•
Adjust the engine revs with the throttle to a comfortable speed for
you.
•
Do not operate in a confined space where exhaust fumes (carbon
monoxide) can collect.
•
Check your lawn is free of obstructions, stones, metal or other
items likely to damage the blades.
•
People, pets & children should be kept clear when mowing
•
Only allow people familiar with these instructions to mow
•
For first timers, why not practice manoeuvring the mower without
the cutting cylinder rotating. Gain confidence and remember you
should be in control!
•
When loading the mower onto a trailer or into a car boot, ask for
assistance, avoid twisting and keep your back straight.
•
Always refuel the mower outside or in a well ventilated area. Do
not smoke
•
Mow across slopes, never up and down. The split ratchet rear
roller on the 54D models will freewheel down hill.
•
Do not mow excessively steep slopes.
•
Disengage the cutting cylinder when crossing gravel drives, walks
or roads.
