NEMA Type 4 Enclosure Reference Guide 

Security 

The front lid of the Enclosure is permanently attached and is secured in the closed position with 
seven (7) locking tabs and screws, ensuring the watertight seal of the unit.  For additional security, 
the latch can be secured with a standard user-supplied padlock. 

Mounting 

The Enclosure is designed for vertical wall mounting.  If the Enclosure will not be mounted 
directly on the wall, LXE recommends mounting the Enclosure on ¾ inch (1.90 cm) plywood 
mounting boards measuring 30” x 40” (76.2 cm x 101.6 cm).  

Using a mounting board allows the Enclosure to attached to a ceiling truss or support column 
using beam clamps, “U” bolts, or other secure methods.  To maintain the NEMA Type 4 rating, 
the Enclosure must be mounted vertically. 

If you are uncertain as to the quality of your facility’s electric power (i.e. surges, spikes, lightning 
strikes, brown outs, noise, etc.), LXE recommends that you install an Uninterruptible Power 
Supply (UPS) for each unit.  Select a UPS with approximately 250VA - 500VA capacities. 

Note: 

Optional lightning suppression for AC power is available on the Enclosure.

The Enclosure is designed to house Access Points and bridges.  LXE offers mounting kits for the 
following devices

Note: 

The LXE 6740 uses the same mounting kit as the LXE 6730.  Please refer to 
the appropriate LXE 6730 instruction sheet to install an LXE 6740. 

Kits are available to mount these devices alone or in combination.  Please contact your LXE 
representative for available mounting combinations.  Some of the network products (AP’s and 
Bridges) mentioned in this document are obsolete.  LXE continues to offers kits to mount these 
devises as a service to our customers. 

Note: 

The above devices have been tested and approved by LXE.  Other Access Points and 
Bridges may be used in the Enclosure, but have not been tested by LXE.  For information 
on obsolete equipment used in the NEMA enclosure, please refer to the archive section of 
the LXE ServicePass website.
